The Congress of South African Trade Unions(COSATU) in the Western Cape has learned with great shock about the horrific and fatal accident between a bakkie, a bus and a taxi on Tuesday, the 30^th of  May 2023 in Mitchell Plain, along the AZ Berman Drive, which took the lives of five school children.

COSATU Western Cape is calling on the MEC of Transport to ban the transportation of school children on bakkies. The Federation equally calls on law enforcement agencies to clamp down on this mode of transport.

Furthermore, we are expecting a thorough investigation to ensure that justice is served.

We extend our sincerest condolences to the families, relatives, classmates,and wish those injured, a speedy recovery.
