The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) has learnt with sadness the passing of Comrade Mary Dzinyemba, the Deputy Secretary General of the Malawi Congress of Trade Unions (MCTU) and General Secretary of the Commercial Industrial and Allied Workers Union (CIAWU).

Comrade Mary passed on at her home in Sunnyside, Blantyre (Malawi) following an illness and the pressing demands of the recent May Day activities in the country. Her sterling contribution to the struggle of the working class and women remain a very indelible part of Malawi and the Southern African region under the auspices of the Southern Africa Trade Union Coordination Council (SATUCC).

We express our solidarity and sincere condolences to her family, the workers and the people of Malawi. We further celebrate her legacy of selflessness to the cause of workers in her country and the entire continent.
