MEDIA ALERT: SADTU FREE STATE COMMEMORATES WOMEN’S DAY

The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union in Free State will on the 12th of August 2023 commemorate the Women’s March of 1956 by hosting its second annual 23km Fun Walk to Winnie Madikizela Mandela’s House in Winnie Mandela Town previously known as Brandfort.

Part of the Fun Walk is to raise awareness and campaign against any form of Gender Based Violence (GBV) as it manifests itself in our workplaces and broadly within the society.

The campaign is organised under SADTU’s campaign of “I am a School Fan” which seeks to mobilise communities to take active part in making our schools save havens, free from violence, bullying, drug usage and vandalism.

The walk will be led by the provincial leaders of SADTU and approximately 400 participants that would include members, COSATU POBs and its Affiliates, Department of Education led by MEC Makalo and the community members who all have registered.

The Fun Walk will commence from 4,5km away from the Brandfort Tall Plaza and finish at Winnie Mandela’s, House.

While traffic officials will be present to control the movement, we call upon motorists to exercise caution and patience when they come across participants in this Fun Walk.
