COSATU North West calls for urgent intervention in Ditsobotla Local Municipality

15 August 2023

The Congress of South African Trade Unions(COSATU) in the North West has learned with disappointment that residents of Ditsobotla have been without electricity for almost a month.

COSATU in the province has noted that there have been back and forth engagements between the municipality and ESKOM, but this has not yielded any results. Drawing from the information at our disposal, power supply is far from being restored to the residents.

We have also noted the provincial government’s indication of its intervention in the matter. This must be expedited as residents of Ditsobotla should not be undermined any longer than they already have been.

These power cuts have had a dire impact on the livelihood of our people and the business community at large. Both residents and the business community have suffered great losses which will take long periods to recover.

COSATU calls on the Premier and the MEC of CoGHSTA to prioritise the matter of Ditsobotla and give it the necessary focus and urgency it deserves.
