The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) has recently launched a new call center to provide much-needed assistance to workers facing labour-related challenges. This dedicated resource aims to offer support, information, and guidance to both members of COSATU-affiliated unions and unorganized workers, ensuring that they have a place to turn for help with workplace issues.

Media Alert: SAMWU to lead a march to the Matjahabeng Local Municipality 

he South African Municipal Workers’ Union (SAMWU) in the Free State Province will be leading a march to the Matjahabeng Local Municipality on the 7th September 2023. Members of the Union, along with workers at the municipality will be delivering a memorandum of demands to the Executive Mayor, Cllr Thanduxolo Khalipha. 

Some of the issues raised in the memorandum includes:

1. Health and Safety and provision of relevant PPE.

2. Outsourcing of municipal services.

3. GBV in the workplace.

4. Harassment of employees by the Executive Mayor.

5. Political interference in the operations of the Municipality.

6. Unlawful recruitment and nepotism.

7. Payment of salaries in terms of the relevant Municipal grading.

8. Payment of COVID-19 allowance.

9. Amendment of the Municipal Systems Act.
