The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) in the Free State will be observing the International Day for Decent Work on the 6th of October 2023 by holding a march, pickets and demonstrations across the province. The provincial march will take place in Bloemfontein and the procession will head to the OR Tambo Building.
During the march, memorandums of demands will be handed over to the Premier and tow Security Companies:
Protea Coin for underpaying employees, which arose from their deliberate miscalculation of employee salaries, exploiting the workers.
Fidelity Security group for charging workers for the security uniform they provide to workers. This is abuse of power at its best.
Key to the demands is for the decisive intervention of the Premier in the crisis within Mafube, Mohokare and Kopanong municipalities where salaries of workers as well as third parties are either paid late or not paid at all. We will be demanding immediate payment of all outstanding salaries and third parties. The Federation will also be insisting that decisive action be taken against the Head of Department of Human Settlements who has brought the Provincial Government into disrepute by failing to spend the money in the previous financial year, which led to almost a billion rand being returned to the national treasury whilst the housing needs in the province have reached high levels. The HOD is also responsible for the toxic environment within the department which has adversely affected service delivery.
The march will take place as follows:
Date: 06 October 2023
Time: 09H00
Assembly point: Mahungra Car Wash
Destination: Office of the Premier and Waterfront Mall
Memorandums handed over to: Free State Premier, Protea Coin Security, Fidelity Security and Waterfront Mall Management
The struggle continues!
