COSATU Mpumalanga to lead pickets, marches and 2-hour work stoppages during International Day for Decent work on 06 October 2023

The Congress of South African Trade Unions(COSATU) in Mpumalangawill be leading pickets and mini marches to fight against the scourge of high levels of exploitation, violation of workers’ rights and the fight for decent work for all.

The activities are planned to take place as follows:

Activity 1

A mini-march led by SACCAWU members employed by Builders’ Warehouse and Shoprite/Checkers as well as the Informal Traders Sitanempumelelo organization.

The action is planned to take place as follows:

Time: 10H00

Gathering point: 01 Bester Kilo Street proceeding to Brown Street (opposite Shoprite)

The Memorandum will be handed over to the Mayor of Mbombela Local Municipality and Massmart Management.

Activity 2

A 2-hour picket led by SATAWU members employed by Phepha MV Security company.

The action is planned to take place as follows:

Time:11H00-13H00

Venue: Pickets Tonga Hospital Nkomazi

The mini march and picket aim to address the following atrocities:

#failure to comply with collective agreements

# failure to deduct the private security sector provident fund

#failure to deduct for the NBCPSS towards health insurance

#non-compliance with the minimum wage

#attack on collective bargaining

#unilateral changes in conditions of employment

#disregard of trade unions and union bashing

#vitimisation of union members
