The Congress of South African Trade Unions(COSATU) in the North West has learned with disappointment about the continued spate of corruption in the province.
This is as per the reports from the weekend newspapers that one of the municipalities in the province has paid for services which are not in existence or incomplete.
Alarmingly, Ratlou Local Municipality is not a water service authority but is committed and has entered into a transaction which requires it to provide these services.
As COSATU we are also aware that the same municipality has not been able to pay workers’ salaries in the past but has the luxury of entering into transactions which are above its authority.
It is unacceptable that a province which has service delivery deficits allows government officials the audacity to misuse public funds and this is left unattended.
COSATU calls for a full investigation into these allegations of fraud, corruption and maladministration which has taken place at this municipality and that those who are implicated face the full might of the law.
COSATU condemns this in the strongest terms and calls on law enforcement agencies who are given the responsibility to protect the public to act promptly and bring the perpetrators to book.
