The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union [NEHAWU] wishes its sister union, the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union [POPCRU] a successful 10th National Congress which is scheduled to take place from the 6th to the 10th November 2023.
The congress is held under the theme “Building a sustainable organisation in defence of collective bargaining.” The congress takes against the background of vicious and relentless onslaught on collective bargaining and the rights of workers by the government and employers. This is evident with Treasury’s obsession in cutting down the public service wage bill as part of its austerity measures programme.
As a result of the austerity programme of government, the public service is already understaffed and the quality of service delivery is compromised, especially in the criminal justice cluster. We trust the congress will deliberate on strategies and tactics to defend collective and improve the conditions of workers.
Equally, we hope that the congress will emerge with a concrete program of action to fight against the austerity programme of government as well intensifying the struggle for workers in the criminal justice cluster and workers in the public sector in general, who are subjected to unbearable working conditions
As NEHAWU, we look forward to the resolutions that will emerge from the congress. We wish POPCRU a successful congress.
