COSATU Northern Cape supports the call for a ceasefire at Gaza

11 November 2023

The Congress of South African Trade Unions(COSATU) in the Northern Cape urges workers to join the Solidarity March scheduled to commence today, the 10th November 2023 in Kimberley.

The solidarity action comes after the brutal killing of civilians in the Middle East which the Federation has condemned since the 7th of October 2023.

COSATU Northern Cape reminds South Africans that the conflict in the Middle East is a result of the occupation of territories which belong to the people of Palestine by the apartheid Israeli regime.

COSATU Northern Cape calls on the government of South Africa to put pressure on Israeli government to accede to the following aspects:

Humanitarian ceasefire.

Respect for int’l humanitarian law.

Unconditional release of hostages.

Protection of civilians, hospitals, UN facilities, shelters & schools.

Ending use of civilians as human shields.

The march is organized as follows:

Date: 10 November 2023

Time: 14H00

Assembly Point: Honoured Dead Memorial, Memorial Road, Kimberley

Marchers will hand over a memorandum to the Premier of Northern Cape calling on the South African government to put pressure on Israel government to adhere to international law governing wars and stop bombing hospitals, schools which puts lives of children, the aged in particular and the civilians in general in danger.
