SA Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions(BDS) Coalition Media Alert

28 November 2023

On Wednesday 29th November, UN International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, South Africans will be uniting like never before to demand a Ceasefire Now!

Over 15,000 Palestinians, including over 8,000 children have already been killed in Gaza, many more lie buried under the rubble of homes, schools and hospitals. Yet Netanyahu, the murderous Israeli apartheid prime minister, has announced his intent to continue the genocidal bombing of Gaza.

The SA BDS Coalition, SAFTU and COSATU convened a task team to organise a demonstration in Johannesburg with support of over forty organisations in a unified call from South Africa to Palestine for an end to Apartheid Israel’s genocide.

The march will assemble on Wednesday 29th at Mary Fitzgerald Square at 10h00 and march peacefully over Mandela Bridge, pausing as we remember the Palestinian martyrs and the prophetic words of Mandela himself that our freedom will be incomplete without the freedom of the Palestinians.

We will rally at Constitution Hill, a site resonant with the history of our own struggle against apartheid and settler-colonialism yet also of hope that apartheid can be dismantled and that the Palestinian people will win freedom and justice.

We are calling on trade unions, political parties, faith communities, social movements, grass roots campaigns, community organisations, human rights and social justice organisations and everyone that cares about humanity to join together along with millions across the world:

We demand an end to the genocide, and end to the occupation and Israeli apartheid.

There can be no peace without justice for the Palestinian people and we will stand with them until Palestine is free.
