NEHAWU STATEMENT ON THE 38TH ANNIVERSARY OF COSATU

Friday December 01, 2023

The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union [NEHAWU] joins workers across the country in celebrating the 38th anniversary of the formation of our federation, the Congress of South African Trade Unions [COSATU].

The national union takes this opportunity to congratulate the federation on reaching this milestone of 38 years. COSATU was formed on the 1st December 1985, as a militant, fighting and a campaigning federation for workers’ rights and the broader struggles of the working-class in general.

Indeed, the federation since its formation has been a shield and spear of workers and the broader working-class. COSATU has championed the interest of the workers at all material times in order to improve their working conditions whilst improving their economic and social welfare. For the past 38 years, the federation has been at the forefront in the struggle of workers. It has been a voice of workers in advancing, defending and protecting their gains.

The task ahead however remains extremely challenging especially when workers are faced with a new escalation of miseries, pains and suffocations that threatens their historic gains and livelihoods as a result of the onslaught directed to them. This therefore requires our Federation to remain unwavering in its pursuit of waging a relentless struggle in defence of workers and the working-class. Workers need COSATU now more than ever to defend their gains.

Happy 38TH Anniversary to the Congress of South African Trade Union [COSATU].
