The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) in Gauteng commends the leadership of Gauteng Premier, Comrade Panyaza Lesufi, for the ground-breaking progress with the Nasi iSpani Gauteng Youth Recruitment Programme.

Under this initiative, the provincial government has employed crime wardens and green wardens.  The Premier has furthermore recently announced that 32,000 young individuals would be employed as education assistants, general school assistants and early childhood development assistants in Gauteng schools. This strategic move is not only a significant step toward alleviating the high rate of youth unemployment but also contributes to the improvement of educational service delivery.

It is essential to recognize that the Nasi iSpani Gauteng Youth Recruitment Programme is a genuine effort by the provincial government to tackle youth unemployment head-on. The premature and baseless accusations against the programme only serve to distract from the positive impact it will undoubtedly have on the lives of thousands of young people.
