18 March 2024
The Congress of South African Trade Unions(COSATU) in the Eastern Cape will be launching Elijah Barayi Brigades on 18 March 2024.
The Federation is embarking on a joint programme to celebrate International Workers’ Day often referred to as May Day and mobilising workers towards the decisive victory of its ally, the African National Congress (ANC). In ensuring that there is a dedicated team of volunteers drawn from Shopstewards to undertake the task at hand, it launched the Elijah Barayi Brigades in KZN on 14 March 2024.
COSATU Eastern Cape is among the 8 provinces that will be launching their editions of Elijah Barayi Brigades of volunteers today. The launching of the Elijah Barayi Brigades is one on the elements in strengthening the joint campaign to ensure a successful Workers’ Day Rally in Mthatha on 01 May 2024 and that the ANC emerges victorious in the National & Provincial Elections on 29 May 2024.
All COSATU affiliated unions will be participating in the launch and will be parading their volunteers that will be part of Elijah Barayi Brigades.
The event will be held as follows.
Date: 18 March 2024
Time: 10h00
Venue: Orient Theatre Hall, Quigney, East London
Orient Theatre will be painted red as we expect a full house. Alliance components will render messages of support and a COSATU Central Executive Committee member will deliver the main message.
