The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) in Gauteng sends its heartfelt condolences to the families of the 11 school children and the driver of a scholar transport mini-bus who died in an accident this morning in Kokosi-Wedela, Merafong Local Municipality.

COSATU Gauteng also wishes a speedy recovery to the seven pupils who were injured in the crash and taken to hospital.

The mini-bus transporting pupils from Rockland Primary School and Laerskool Blyvooruitsig was allegedly hit from behind by a bakkie at around 6.45am, causing it to overturn and catch fire.

The Federation hopes that in time the families will be comforted as the pain of losing a child is unconceivable.

We call on all road users to drive with caution, follow the rules of the road and be courteous towards other road users to prevent collisions especially ones as deadly as the one that claimed these young lives.
