SACCAWU is holding its Regional/Provincial Congress staring today 21 August 2024 to 23 August 2024. SACCAWU organizes workers in the retail, commercial, hospitality, gaming and related sectors. Its main aim is to improve the appalling working conditions in these sectors. Hospitality sector comprises of the most vulnerable employees in our economy.
This sector including the retail sector and is characterized by working conditions that depict insecure or atypical working conditions. Hours of work, the working week, and wages are insecure and way the below the statutory minimum standards.
Statistics SA recently counted the sector we are organized in as one of those that has contributed immensely to the downward unemployment trends. The Provincial Congress in KZN is held in the midst of all these challenges. The union is expected to map a way forward to protect jobs in the sector not to hemorrhage as it is now.
The Congress has opened today 21 August 2024 and ends on 23 August 2024
