COSATU Call Center Number 010 002 2590

The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) has recently launched a new call center to provide much-needed assistance to workers facing labour-related challenges. This dedicated resource aims to offer support, information, and guidance to both members of COSATU-affiliated unions and unorganized workers, ensuring that they have a place to turn for help with workplace issues.

POPCRU commends swift action in arresting the Lusikisiki massacre suspects

The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU) commends the speedy work done by police in apprehending suspects linked to the killing of eighteen people in Lusikisiki, Eastern Cape.

Through intelligence and meticulous detective work, the arrests were made less than 24 hours after police issued a public appeal for assistance in locating the men.

As a union, we commend this swift action by members of the SAPS, and believe this highlights the commitment and bravery of our police officers, who continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of our communities and to bring suspects to book.

We recognize that policing in South Africa comes with immense challenges, and despite facing resource constraints, high workloads, and often dangerous working conditions, our men and women in blue continue to carry out their duties with professionalism and dedication. Their efforts to bring criminals to justice, especially in the face of violent crime and organized criminal syndicates, deserve the highest commendation.

The recent arrests are a testament to the commitment of SAPS officers to making our communities safer and restoring public trust in law enforcement. These operations not only disrupt criminal activity but also send a strong message that crime will not be tolerated, and that law and order will prevail.

We call on the criminal justice system to ensure that these arrests lead to swift and decisive prosecution, so that justice is served, and the perpetrators are held accountable for their actions. Furthermore, we urge community members to continue supporting law enforcement efforts by reporting criminal activities and working with the police to build safer neighbourhoods.

As POPCRU, we remain committed to advocating for better working conditions, resources, and support for our members within SAPS. It is essential that our police officers are equipped with the necessary tools, training, and support systems to continue their work effectively. We will also continue to stand alongside them in their fight against crime and in their pursuit of a safer, more just South Africa.
