COSATU North West to deliver message of support at domestic workers workshop on COIDA

The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) North West Provincial Secretary Kopano Konopi will deliver a message of support at a domestic workers workshop hosted by the Department of Employment and Labour’s Compensation Fund on Saturday, 16 November.

The South African Domestic Service and Allied Workers Union (SADSAWU) officials will also attend the event.

The Compensation Fund has been hosting roadshows around the country to educate domestic workers about their rights under the Compensation Fund.

Starting March 2021, all domestic worker employers must register with the Compensation Fund to cover the worker in case of injury, disease or death while at work. Employers must pay over 1.04% of the worker’s annual earnings or the set minimum, whichever is higher, to the Compensation Fund.

Domestic workers are invited to attend the event and to bring along their identity documents in case they have enquiries. A helpdesk onsite will assist with queries related to claims and compliance issues.

The workshop will be held at the Bon Hotel in Rustenburg, Plot 37, Waterglen Road, R24 from 9am to 2pm.
