NEHAWU STATEMENT ON INTERNATIONAL DAY OF SOLIDARITY WITH THE PEOPLE OF PALESTINE

The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union [NEHAWU] reiterates its unwavering International Solidarity with the oppressed people of Palestine on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with Palestine.

The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is observed annually on the 29th November in line with the United Nations resolution 32/40B to provide Solidarity support with the People of Palestine.

We are observing this year’s International Day of Solidarity against the background of heinous atrocities that have been committed by the Apartheid Israel Regime. Since the 07th October 2023, we have witnessed the barbarity of the state of Israel with the atrocious killing of innocent Palestinian People by the Israeli military attacks in Gaza with over 43 000 people killed thus far.

Israeli has violated all principles of international law by intentionally killing and injuring innocent civilians.

As NEHAWU, we call for an end to the unjust Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, and for protection of the Palestinian people. Equally, we reiterate our call for United Nations and the UN Security Council to assume their responsibility for the protection of innocent civilians.

We once again welcome the International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant issued against the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu and its former Chief of Defence Yoav Gallant for the wanton killing of Palestinians.

As we observe this day, we remain steadfast and resolute in our solidarity with the People of Palestine for an end of the illegal occupation, killings, and human rights violations. In this regard, we continue to call for:

·       An Independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital

·       Israel end the occupation and dismantle the apartheid wall, which contravenes international law

•      A universal right of return for Palestinian refugees

•     Full equality for Palestinians

•     An end to the colonial settler expansionism of Israel

•     Stop all forms of human rights violations

Lastly, we reiterate our unwavering International Solidarity with the People of Palestine.
