The South African Municipal Workers’ Union (SAMWU) in the City of Johannesburg will hold a media briefing on the poor state of the Johannesburg Property Company (JPC) since the appointment of Helen Botes as CEO. Under her leadership, corporate governance has rapidly deteriorated, adversely impacting workers and service delivery.
SAMWU intends to have Ms Botes declared a delinquent director for failing in her fiduciary duties. Additionally, the union will institute criminal charges against Ms Botes for contravening the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA) and the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) by approving the increase of the salaries of councilors by R83,000, while the entity is failing in its financial obligations to the Politically Facilitated Agreement (PFA).
At this rate, the Johannesburg Property Company will be dragged to the ground.
SAMWU demands that a forensic investigation be conducted for the period of her tenure to ascertain the JPC’s performance under her stewardship.
The details of the briefing are as follows:
Date : Thursday, 5 December 2024
Venue: SAMWU House, 84 Frederick Street, Marshalltown, Johannesburg
Time : 10:00 AM
Members of the media are encouraged to attend and cover the media briefing.
