JOHANNESBURG – The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (DENOSA) in Gauteng will be holding its three-day 9th Provincial Congress between 22 and 24 January 2025 at the Kopanong Hotel and Conference Centre in Benoni.
This is where the state of readiness of the province’s health facilities for the implementation of the National Health Insurance (NHI), the chronic shortage of nurses in the province, non-filling of vacant posts, the dwindling numbers of student intakes at nursing colleges and universities, and compromised safety and security of nurses in facilities will feature prominently in the deliberations, among others.
Delegates from all five regions (districts) of the province will converge in Benoni to discuss nursing-specific issues, as well as the gross shortage of both general and specialist nurses and the increasing need for these areas of care in the province.
Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi (still to confirm); DENOSA President, Simon Hlungwani; Health MEC, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko; COSATU Provincial Chairperson, Amos Monyela; SACP Provincial Secretary, Jacob Mamabolo; and ANC are all expected to address the congress on Day One.
