The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union [NEHAWU] in KwaZulu-Natal will demonstrate during the official opening of the KZN legislature by His Majesty, King MisuZulu.
The demonstration comes after many attempts by the union to engage with the office of the speaker on the matters that relate to conditions of service and employment. The demonstration will take place on the 27th of February 2025 from 09h00 outside Woodburn Rugby Stadium.
The union has raised the following issues with the office of the speaker:
• Unpaid overtime.
• Tools of trade,
• Insourcing of all contracted staff (HCM, SCM, IT, Catering, Security, Cleaning).
• Filling of vacant posts.
• Implementation of the Developmental policy.
• Car allowances/Subsidy scheme.
• Fair implementation of cost-cuttings measures
• Post-retirement medical aid
• Absorption of 5 year contract Managers.
• Implementation of the stand-by allowance
• Job Evaluation review
• Proper implementation of the Acting Policy.
The union calls upon the office of the speaker to address the concerns of workers otherwise the union will continue with the demonstrations on the 28th February 2025, when the premier delivers the State of the Province address. NEHAWU will not sit and watch while the employer continues to devalue the status of its employees. If the office of the speaker doesn’t address these issues the union is prepared to mobilize workers into a struggle that will unsettle the employer to the core.
