The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union [NEHAWU] in KwaZulu-Natal will picket on the 25th of March 2025, during the presentation of the Provincial Budget Speech by MEC, Francois Rodgers in Pietermaritzburg.
The picket is convened to oppose and call for an immediate end to the neoliberal austerity measures meted by the provincial treasury in the province which has resulted in a large number of unfilled vacant posts. Most departments are understaffed and this has an adverse effect on service delivery. Part of the issues which will also feature in the memorandum is the union’s call for government to end outsourcing, PPPs and the immediate full absorption of the Community Healthcare Workers (CHWs) after our Labour Court victory .
The union shall also use the picket to raise its anger on the proposed 0.5% VAT increase and the recent unprecedented increase of GEMS premiums.
Details of the picket:
Date: Tuesday March 25, 2025
Time: 08h00
Venue: KZN Provincial Legislature, Pietermaritzburg
