COSATU GAUTENG WELCOMES ACCELERATED INFRASTRUCTURE DELIVERY

The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) in Gauteng welcomes the progress being made by the Gauteng Provincial Government in accelerating the delivery of critical infrastructure projects across the province.

The completion of seven major infrastructure projects is a positive development for Gauteng and demonstrates the importance of sustained public investment in improving communities and strengthening public services.

For COSATU, infrastructure development is not only about constructing buildings. It is about building a better future for working-class communities, improving access to quality public services and creating economic opportunities for workers and communities.

We particularly welcome projects that improve social infrastructure and contribute to better conditions for children, senior citizens and other vulnerable members of society. Such investments are essential in building inclusive communities and addressing the infrastructure inequalities inherited from the past.

COSATU Gauteng believes that infrastructure spending must continue to be used as a catalyst for economic growth and job creation. Government must ensure that these projects create decent work opportunities, develop local skills and provide opportunities for workers, young people, local businesses and emerging contractors.

We commend the Gauteng Provincial Government for the progress achieved and encourage it to maintain this momentum. The people of Gauteng need to see more infrastructure projects completed efficiently, with quality workmanship and within agreed timeframes.

At the same time, COSATU will continue to advocate for infrastructure development that puts workers and communities at the centre. Public infrastructure must translate into better services, decent employment and improved living conditions for the people of Gauteng.

COSATU Gauteng believes that a stronger infrastructure programme can contribute significantly to building a more inclusive and prosperous provincial economy. We therefore welcome the progress made and call for the continued acceleration of infrastructure delivery across Gauteng.
