The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) welcomes the assurance by the National Bargaining Council for the Road Freight and Logistics Industry (NBCRFLI) that workers monies are safe and that the various funds under its control on behalf of workers remain sustainable into the future.
This is in response to media reports alleging that the council is misrepresenting workers’ Sick Pay, Holiday Pay and Leave Pay funds as its own assets in its financial statements. The NBCRFLI has clarified that in line with its Constitution, the Main Collective Agreement and the Labour Relations Act (LRA) there is no legal requirement to prepare separate financial statements for each of these funds.
The Federation is heartened that its affiliate, the South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (SATAWU), which is a member of the NBCRFLI, will continue to keep a close eye to ensure the proper management of workers’ benefit funds by the bargaining council.
